Known Issues:

This is the list of known bugs, issues, requests, limitations, deficiencies, stupid decisions, etc.

Error deserializing AppSettings:
This usually occurs due to installation of a new release without un-installing the old version. If anything in the format of the settings file changed between versions, it will need to create a new file with default settings. You should go through the setup screens and ensure that everything is configured correctly.

Registration goes back to wrong screen:
After you enter your registration number, the registration dialog returns to the registration screen rather than continuing on to the "Thank You" screen. If you exit and restart the application everything is fine, you will never see the problem again unless you re-install on a new computer. (by then we hope to have it fixed...)

Ecco stops responding.
Under certain circumstances Ecco stops responding to API requests. There is apparently a resource "leak" in Ecco related to heavy use of the API for making large numbers of item-folder assignments. When this occurs, the only known solution is to save the file with a new name and run a Database recovery on the file.

This problem is believed to be made worse by a Y2K bug that has been found in the API. If a blank file was created after Y2K, then there are certain initializations needed by the API that were not done. Every time Ecco Helpers requests a list of changed items, all items in the file will be returned. This can result in new timestamps being created for every item in the file, and evantually the "leak" in the API will cause Ecco to stop responding.

To avoid this problem, use the Blank.ect template in the Yahoo EccoPro groups files section to create new blank files. This template was created by setting the clock on a machine to a date prior to 12/31/1999.

Application crash in Palm ToDo helper.
If the option to synchronize Action, Projects, Someday/Maybe with To-Do's is chosen, and the file you are working in doen't have a Priority folder defined, Ecco Helpers will crash. The folder is usually created by the Palm conduit in Ecco, but if you are testing in a blank file, the folder will not be present. The workaround is to create a popup list folder titled "Priority" and all will work.

Under certain circumstances the "Apply" button doesn't display on the General tab of the Setup dialog.
The cause for this is still a mystery, and we have not been able to reproduce it in development. If you get this problem, PLEASE let us know!!! So far we suspect that it may be a resource issue, or a problem with the .NET framework.
This hopefully was addressed by re-coding the setup dialog in v1.0.20. If you notice this problem in a later version please let us know!

Timestamps inserted by the TranSender don't have the proper format
This was an issue with beta0.0.18, the problem has been fixed in v1.0.19

TranSender idea window always puts items at the *TOP* of the destination folder.
This is due to a quirk in Ecco.
TranSender Idea Window doesn't pop to the top on first invocation.
If the EccoHelpers application is not the active application when the TranSender Idea Window is first opened with the hot-key, the idea window will open behind whatever application is active, or sometimes it will open in a minimized state. You need to click on the button in the task bar to make the TranSender idea window active. This only happens on the first invocation of the idea window. After the first invocation, the idea window pops to the top as intended. This bug seems to exist only in certain versions of windows and is not consistent. Apparently Windows tries to protect the user from hostile applications grabbing the focus. As soon as you let Windows know that you really wanted it to do what you told it to do in the first place it seems to behave.

Tutorial inconsistency
The tutorial has not yet been updated with the changes to timestamps. Specifically the TSeModified and TSeCreated folders are now Text folders and not Date folders.
Fixed in v1.0.21 please let us know if you notice other issues.

A new TranSender idea window opens even if one is already open.
A requested feature is to have the option of re-using the existing idea window. This feature will be made available in an early maintenance release. It is recommended that you try turning off the "Stay open" option if this is a problem.

Module C:\Program Files\Cold Mountain Software\Ecco Helpers\DDCInt36.ocx failed to register.
This error message may occur during installation if your system does not have certain files from the Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 runtime that are requred by the DDE Active-X control that is used to communicate with Ecco. These files are installed by many common Microsoft applications including Outlook 2000. If you run into this problem, you can download and install the latest VB6 runtime from Microsoft. More information on the runtime can be found at this link. The download consists of an executable that will expand and load the DLL's required by the DDE client software.
Fixed in b0.0.16

Application fails on Windows NT4-SP6
A bug in the copy protection software prevents correct startup of Ecco Helpers on Windows NT4-SP6

Fixed in b0.0.16

APP NOTE:
if using the GTD helpers, let EH create the folders for you so that they get the proper pop-up and sub-folder values

ToDo Category not synchronized back from Palm
If a new item is entered on the Palm handheld, or the category of an item is changed, the ToDo Category does not cause the item to appear in the appropriate sub-folder of "Contexts". This behavior might be added in a future release if there is sufficient interest.

Deleting an item in the TranSend outliner
Currently the only way to delete an item in the TranSend outliner is from the context menu for the item. To access the context menu, right click on the item icon.

Done and To-Do's must have original names
Ecco Helpers expects that the Done and To-Do's folders will have their original names. It is possible to rename these folders even though the method is not documented.

For information about what has been fixed in the most recent release, see the Release Notes page.
